Low carbon electrification

BC Hydro offers support through the Low Carbon Electrification (LCE) program to help with industrial:

  • Fuel switching
  • Facility retrofits
  • Transport fleet electrification

If your large commercial or industrial business is looking to electrify operations or improve its energy efficiency, you may be eligible for support.

Industrial Electrification Program

The CleanBC and BC Hydro Industrial Electrification (IE) Program creates a new, streamlined funding process to support industrial operations in applying for electrification projects to reduce greenhouse gas emissions.

The program is jointly administered by CleanBC and BC Hydro. Applications for this program will be accepted from April 2, 2024 to December 31, 2024 or until funding is exhausted.

Electrification roadmaps

Customers with multiple sites or +2 GWh/year of anticipated incremental electricity consumption may be eligible for funding to cover the portion of the roadmap concerning fuel switching from fossil fuels to electricity.

Feasibility studies

Funding is available for feasibility studies to estimate increased electricity consumption, reductions in Greenhouse Gas (GHG) emissions to grade 10 (+/- 10%), and implementation costs to grade 30 (+/- 30%).

Project incentives

Project incentives are a mechanism by which businesses can lower the capital requirements to improve payback and/or meet investment criteria for implementing electrification projects.

Incentives are available for hard capital projects with a minimum persistence of five years that increase electricity consumption by a minimum of 300,000 kWh/year. Bundling of projects is permitted to achieve minimum consumption requirements.

Pilot projects

Incentive funding is available for projects that demonstrate technologies that are commercially available but not widely used in B.C. or for testing technologies that are relatively new.
