Clean energy on Canada's west coast
BC Hydro is an integrated utility in the Canadian province of British Columbia (B.C.), situated between the US states of Washington and Alaska in the Pacific Northwest. With over 12,000 megawatts (MW) of generating capacity, we deliver hydroelectricity to 95% of the population of B.C. In 2022, we provided service to over five million people and supplied over 32,000 gigawatt-hours (GWh) of energy.
We are well-positioned to support your large commercial or industrial business in transitioning to low-carbon, renewable hydroelectricity. By choosing 98% clean energy in B.C., your business will partner with a recognized climate leader and take advantage of stable, low-cost energy from a resilient grid.
Clean energy goals
Our ESG Report [PDF, 11.6 MB] sets out our role in supporting our province's climate actions and targets as a Crown Corporation. Our approach to reducing direct and indirect emissions aligns with British Columbia's Carbon Neutral Regulation, the CleanBC Roadmap to 2030 [PDF, 9.4 MB], and the 17 United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (UNSDG). The UNSDG goals are 17 global goals, set forth by the United Nations General Assembly in 2015, aimed at safeguarding the planet, reducing inequality, and ensuring prosperity for all.
BC Hydro plans, operates, and maintains our electric system in accordance with Mandatory Reliability Standards established by the North American Electric Reliability Corporation (NERC) and the Western Electricity Coordinating Council (WECC). We measure our reliability using industry-recognized metrics, SAIDI and SAIFI. In 2023, we invested CAD$3.9 billion to upgrade our assets and build new infrastructure to ensure the reliability of our electric system in a changing climate.

Matching industrial sites to new customers
BC Hydro maintains a registry of industrial properties with available land, electrical infrastructure, and available transmission or distribution capacity. We match these properties with businesses looking to establish or expand their operations in the province.
By pairing new businesses with suitable industrial sites, site owners can benefit from potential new opportunities. New industry can also help revitalize the local community, growing alongside existing industries.
Access incentives and support
Eligible businesses can access expert advice, incentives, and resources to transition to clean power, available at one of the lowest rates in North America. These programs can help reduce costs, enhance energy efficiency, and lower GHG emissions.
